Two rules
Single-key shortcuts are ignored while you're typing. Type "video" in the chat and you won't trigger the text, eraser and pencil tools on the way through.
Holding Ctrl, Cmd or Alt always passes through to the browser. Ctrl C over a chat message copies the text, not the shape you happen to have selected. Copy, paste, reload and the rest behave exactly as they do everywhere else.
