Clip user guide
Clip is an AI design studio built on one infinite canvas. You describe what you want; you get finished work you can keep editing.
- Signing upGetting into Clip takes about a minute, and you can do real work before you pay anything.
- Getting startedFive minutes, start to finish: a project, a generated image, and one AI edit on top of it.
- Canvas basicsThe canvas is where everything happens. It's infinite in every direction, and every kind of thing Clip makes lives on it together.
- Canvas toolsThe tool rail runs down the right edge of the canvas. Each tool has a single-key shortcut, shown in its tooltip.
- Text & typographyText on the canvas is real type, not a picture of type. It stays sharp at any zoom and exports as vector where the format allows.
- Frames & layoutAn infinite canvas is wonderful for thinking and useless for delivering. Frames are how a sprawl of ideas becomes a post, a page, or a deck.
- Organizing your canvasA canvas that's been worked on for an afternoon holds a lot. These are the tools for finding things again.
- Creating imagesDescribe a picture and Clip makes it, on the canvas, ready to edit.
- Creating videoClip generates short video with synchronised sound, on the same canvas as everything else.
- Creating 3D modelsClip turns a description or a photograph into a real, textured 3D model you can spin, inspect and download.
- Creating audioVoiceover, narration, dialogue and music — generated on the canvas, ready to drop into a video.
- The content writerNot everything you need is a picture. The content writer drafts captions, ad copy, carousels, scripts and longer pieces, and puts them on the canvas as editabl…
- Choosing a modelEvery generator runs on an engine, and Clip lets you choose which one. Twenty-nine are available across images, video, 3D and audio.
- Style presetsA style preset is a named look — Pop Art, Cyberpunk, and many more — that you attach once so everything you make matches.
- Editing imagesA generated image isn't finished, it's a starting point. Select any image on the canvas — generated, uploaded, or from stock — and a toolbar of AI actions appe…
- Retouching & cutoutsThe four tools you'll reach for most: change it, erase it, cut it out, enlarge it.
- Reshaping imagesTools that change a picture's shape, its viewpoint, or what it's made of.
- Free editing toolsThree tools on the image toolbar cost nothing, on every plan including the free one.
- Design chatThe chat panel is a design assistant that works on your canvas. Describe an outcome and it plans the job, runs the generations, and arranges the results where…
- Brand kitsA brand kit holds everything that makes your brand yours — logos, colours, typefaces, tone of voice, visual references and standing instructions for the AI. At…
- Brand kit copilotA ten-section brand kit is a lot of blank fields. The copilot fills them in with you, by conversation.
- Importing brand guidelinesMost established brands already have a document that says all of this. Upload it and Clip fills the kit in for you.
- Stock photos & uploadsNot everything should be generated. Real product photographs, your own logo, a client's supplied assets, a stock shot that's already right — all of it belongs…
- The video editorGenerated clips are raw material. The video editor is where they become a finished piece — trimmed, sequenced, titled, and scored.
- Timeline & clipsThe timeline is where the edit actually happens. Clips sit on tracks, tracks stack, and the playhead runs across them.
- Rendering & deliveryWhen the edit is right, rendering turns the timeline into a single video file.
- ExportingGetting work out of Clip. All of it is free, on every plan — though the professional formats need a paid plan to be available.
- Version historyClip keeps snapshots of your canvas so a bad hour is never a lost project.
- Projects & workspacesA project is one canvas, its chat history, its assets, its video edits and its version history. It's the unit of work.
- Organizations & teamsAn organization is the account everything hangs off: the plan, the credit balance, the people, and the workspaces.
- Credits & billingOnly generation. Running an AI engine to make something new costs credits; everything else is free.
- Account & settingsOpen Settings from your account menu, top right.
- Keyboard shortcutsPress ? anywhere on the canvas to bring this up in the app.
- TroubleshootingAlmost always one of two things:
- Roadmap — what's coming to ClipEverything in the rest of this guide exists today. This page is the other half of the story: the features we're building next, in enough detail that you can pl…
